sweet or pervert?

I haven't walked in 2 weeks.  I've been feeling very blah, for lack of a better word, and so,  I decided THIS IS THE DAY to get to it again.  it was hard to get up at 5am, but it does so much for me mentally, so I know its worth it.  it will hit me later today how tired I am!

my walk is 2 1/2 miles, downhill first.  this means as I'm coming back into my complex, I have just climbed what feels like Mt Everest, and I have to walk by everyone who is all clean, showered, & dressed waiting for the bus.  and then there are those still in their jammies, just waking up and have to take the dog out to pee.  and of course the security guards, who, all they do is people watch.  I'm a sweaty mess coming back from that hill.

side note: this is Hawaii, so wherever you may live there are always places that are exclusively vacation rentals.  since I'm in more or less an apartment complex with many units, there are always people around that no one has ever seen before.

so as I'm turning my corner to come home, there this old man.  I'd say 70-ish; he going out for a morning stroll, all alone.

him: "you look like the hiking type" with a big 'ol grin on his wrinkly face
me: "I try!"
him: "are you a resident here, or are you visiting?"
me: "I live here"
him: "resident or are you visiting?" ... like I didn't understand
me: "I LIVE HERE" ... a bit louder than normal
him: "ahhhh, so glad there are some nice looking girls here" still, with that big 'ol grin
me: "oh, thank you.  can you be here every morning to tell me that?"

with that I kept on walking, not totally sure if he was a pervert (which all old men are, aren't they?) or maybe he was just a sweet old man, trying to make me smile.  it was a good laugh none-the-less, and even though it came from a 70-ish year old man, it was a good way to start the day.

I'd like to thank myself for getting off my own lazy butt. seriously.

exercise has been a good thing for me. yes, losing weight is an awesome thing (I have a good 20lbs to go) but for me it magically removes stress. not all of it, but a significant amount to make a noticeable difference. my emotions clog me up and walking seems to help ... good music is required because I have a major hill to climb each time!

there is something that leaves my body along with my sweat ... some way or another ... it somehow vanishes. my hormones would like to thank you, er, me, as well as Auntie Flo hasn't been such a, how can I say, um, bitch.
  • I've tried doing Wii Fit at naptime, but now that is the majority of our homeschool time.
  • I've tried involving the children going swimming, but we can never keep a consistent schedule.
  • I've succumbed to what I never wanted to be, and that's a morning person. I have to get up at 5am in order to walk by 6am, home by 7am ... if I'm lucky, they will still be sleeping when I get home.
lately, that has not been the case with Elliott. as I walk in the door, I've found him in the fridge with food everywhere ... he's usually so happy to see me, so its hard to get him in trouble for entertaining himself.
ps. I don't just leave the kids home alone, hoping they stay sleeping. dad is around, he's still sleeping too ... the bum!

its been so nice having this time, that its now necessary. I can feel it emotionally if I don't go. I good habit to start, I suppose. helps with the drinking water habit I'd like to have too.

anyway, a big thank you to me (can I do that?) for finding a solution and sticking with it! whoo-hoo!
what can you thank yourself for today?

pps. isn't it "funny" how this post follows the last one? just something I noticed :)

workout busted

good news ... I've been getting up at 5am to walk at 6am (I have to wait for the sun to come up) and I've gotten used to it. I now love it in fact. I have time to have some coffee, head out with just me and my ipod, watch the sunrise, and sweat out my stress.
bad news ... today I got shin splints, bad. I have been getting them for the last couple of weeks, but nothing too terrible. I was always able to push through. it only comes to my right leg, and only as I walk downhill, not up. my walk is 2.5 miles total, so only about 1 mile is downhill. I couldn't even get 1/2 way and I had to turn around. big bummer to my morning.

good news ... so I decided to do some Wii Fit. I can now do the super-hoola for 10 minutes! yay me! I was getting a good sweat and then ...
bad news ... the batteries died in the remote. so I locate new ones, only to find they are not charged. another bummer. note: if you use rechargeable batteries, don't just throw them in the drawer when they die, CHARGE THEM! a certain someone needs this reminder .. its on the frustrating side to get going with something, like a work out, and have to stop as you're just starting to get into it.
good news, sort of ... I did a pilates video. I found it at the thrift store the other day for $2. its pilates for weight loss with Anna-somebody. I did it yesterday and am a bit sore today, which is why I wanted to walk instead. needless to say, the video was a bit more difficult!

good or bad, I still got me time. thank you God for keeping my kids asleep while I dealt with it all. today can still be a good day. :)

Wii Fit

I got the Wii Fit for Christmas this last year and I must say, I love it. I asked for it before I even tried it; I somehow knew it would be awesome. Nintendo did an great job on the Wii! All the games are really fun, and I'm not even much of a gamer ... not compared to the boys in my house anyway.

The Wii Fit can be played like other games, for fun, but also used for daily exercise routines. It will give you a series of body tests, weigh you, measure you're BMI, and chart your progress along the way. When I started, my Wii Fit Age was 42! embarrassing!! Now it's down to 24; much better!

The majority of the "games" are based on your balance and how you shift your weight from left to right. When you become aware of your shifting, your posture should improve.

It's great for being here in the mountains during the winter time. We have some nice days, and instead of tons and tons of snow, it's just down right too cold to go outside. This Wii Fit is keeping us from going in permanent hibernation mode, which is definitely a good thing!

It keeps track of your best times/scores, and since all of us are doing it, it's now a competition who can get 1st place. Since there is just one base, only one person can go at a time. not having the pressure of competing side by side is what makes it fun, in my opinion. Even Elliott tries to do it, too cute!

I wish you could come over and try it ... I want to have a Wii Fit party!
Just wanted to post and say I fully endorse this product, 2 thumbs waaaay up!!
